July 26, 2010 kicked off the 20th Anniversary of the institution of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Passed in 1990, the act is the most coprehensive federal civil rights law that protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination and provides equal access and opportunity. The ADA is also the world’s first comprehensive declaration of equality for person’s with disabilities. It was former president George H.W. Bush (that’s Papa Bush for all the youngins reading this post) who signed the ADA into law on July 26, 1990.
