A Voice Found
After 11 years of being able to speak only through a mechanical box, Brenda Charett Jensen has been given a new chance at her old voice with a breathrough surgery which replaced her larynx.
Jensen lost the ability to speak after a breathing tube permanently damaged her airway during surgery in 1999. Jensen was left unable to breathe through her nose or mouth, instead having to breathe through a tracheotomy tube, subsequently causing her to also lose her sense of smell and taste.

Since her surgery, Jensen can now smell and taste. She receives therapy to improve her swallowing and strenghten her muscles for the trask of speaking.
